Memories

Memories may migrate from the forefront
Of my mind to the depths of consciousness,
And although the details may become blunt,
With the dwindling acuity of an aging man,
The demure visage will forever be a dream—
Cinderella amidst a cloak of mystic.
Her eyes drew me in, a gentle gleam,
To match the tender lips, tethering my heart.
A stolen glance, upon a chance meeting
In her image, the embodiment was unique,
But the feeling within me was heating,
The warning, of midnight’s forthcoming.
Puzzle pieces were placed in front of me,
And with an enlightened grin—for perhaps
The first moment of my life—I could see
The simplicity on the world unfold.

Muted

Have I always been muted as such?
Or have I developed the tendency,
Sickening reasoning, to withdraw
And be one, without meaning.
I have vacant eyes and a vapid mind—
Surely I am mostly blind.
If it wasn’t for my heart, the diamond
Hiding beneath my flesh… I would guess,
That I am not alive and that, I am,
An entity who has been born benign.
It is that instrument of evil,
That makes me wake, and entangles me,
Sourly intertwines me among fear,
Tangling my tongue as I beseech
For another moment to undo the knot.
It creates a being who is passive seeming,
And behaviour so bizarre that I am
Embarrassed to speak or seek, for a
Greeting or gallant remark.
Have I always been muted in this way,

Or has my tongue decided to hide as such?

My Tongue

It is my tongue that is tied
In the most magnificent fashion—
A faultless knot bound by sorcery
Unbeknownst to the kindly folk.
It is that simple organ—the organic
Hymn teller, word speller, thin
Leather organ that I cannot control.
For it seems to possess a subtle fancy
Geared towards forging its own distress—
Diving in the book of my own desire,
It tears the pages, and smartly smiles,
As if it feeds off my displeasure.
It is my tongue, my speech maker,
The word creator within my jaw
That jousts me with incomplete sayings,
And fragments of sentences
Which I always seem to speak.
It plummets me into proven silence,
And shifts my gaze towards my feet,
Which linger well beneath
The metacognitive and battered belfry
That never seems complete.
It is my tongue I would trade,
And return in exchange for
A thousand repeated rambles,

Or at least, a single, settled smile.

Memories That Rest

I wish I caught every tear you wept,
Stood proud, open arms before you left.
The lust passes and the years follow,
The reality we are born into is hard to swallow.
I am a mouse among men,
But still with passion until my end.
You are the marauder who captured me,
And drowned too, beneath the sea.
In an embrace held short, I live,
There is no crime I would not forgive.
Trying to find life and breath
We are forgotten, left for death.
But still I wonder if within your chest
A piece of me may forever rest.

My Valentine

The years pass us by, never really changing—
The seasons fade, never really forgetting;
Hand in hand as the leaves fall gently down.
Winter tears drown us like a river sliding
Across the landscape built from our hearts.
A decade passes, I’m still alone—
Wondering why I went so wrong,
Holding on to what I carved in stone.
I can’t believe we are both getting older,
A single day lingers in my mind,
I awake each day just to find it gone.
Your smile, greater than diamonds—
I hold it close, so it will last forever,
I want you to last forever.
A thousand tears pass us by, separate lives—
I’ll never feel the hand of my dreams,
It fades as the seasons pass us by.

The Memory

There is one moment put on repeat,
When I lose my mind it gets me through,
While I’m falling apart it helps me dream—
It’s the reason I survive even if it feels I won’t.
And the moment I live is thanks to you,
You’ll never know what you have helped me with,
I’ll never be able to describe the endless nights—
Clinging to a memory that has passed me by.
I wish I could tell you but it is buried so deep
That it seems at any moment I could forget.
But I live vividly somewhere before here and now,
Walking through a world that once felt near
But now crumbles once upon a time.
By now you have your own reason for being,
Memories to guide you through your life—
To take you far away.

Miscommunication

Somewhere along the way I was left behind,
Left with a mouthful of words that disappeared—
They stuck on my tongue as I swallowed hard,
They tasted bitter when mixed with silly thoughts.
I tried to walk away but found myself lost,
The streets themselves were painted black.
I returned with the intention of serenading you
With the verses written on the back of my hand
But I took one look in your eyes and lost my voice.
My heart grew heavy as I kept my mind empty,
I looked to the sky in hopes of consolation
But there was just one star shining faintly,
And he looked so lonely.
I felt akin to his regret.

My Heartbreak

I once fell for the most beautiful girl,
But I didn’t know how to talk to her—
My words didn’t seem to want to unfurl,
Not even when my heart began to stir.
She slipped away not knowing how I felt,
I still can’t figure out what’s wrong with me,
Caught in silence as she makes my heart melt—
I fail to believe it’s not meant to be.

My Heart

Don’t believe a word I say,
Surely I must lie to you—
And I hope that you lie too.
On my mind you start to weigh,
Leaving me sad and confused—
Ego the salt in my wounds.
My heart pops like a balloon,
Jealously may leave me bruised—
Jealousy tears me in two.
The world must be made of sand,
It melts when you hold his hand—
I am torn because of you.

My Heart Still Beats

I’m sitting silently at home again with thoughts of you
Another night wasted worrying about what you could do.
Sometimes I forget you’re human—you have problems of your own.
But I’m vividly aware you are building a life that I’m not in;
I’m pathetically holding on to the only feelings I have ever known
Treating life like a chessboard, a game I’ll never win.
And when I hear one of those songs that remind me of you,
My heart stops, freezing me in memories of a better day,
One where I could say your name and you could say mine too.
Years pass but still thoughts of your heartbeat stays.
And while I don’t even have the words to say hello,
He greets you with a smile, a bitter twist to the knife.
Sometimes just seeing you makes me want to die—
I’m starting to think I’ll stay like this for my whole life.

My Bleeding Heart

Don’t let me sink; can’t you see the hurricane that’s in my heart?
It’s tearing me apart limb from limb, making me deaf and lame.
I see that look in your eye, you know, the look that I hate.
I’m still searching for the perfect verse, the one that makes you fall in love
So at the end of the night I won’t break my hands on walls,
Pictures of you going round and round deep inside my head
Bitterness gives me a shove, down the stairs—here we go again.

Isn’t it great finding someone so special, you can’t breathe at night?
Put them right up on a pedestal, oh wow, this girl must be the one.
There’s no better feeling then wanting to die when she’s gone,
Staring into her eyes and wondering what went wrong.
Break the mirror just to try to make your vision clearer,
Don’t smile back and stand strong, hold on to emotion,
Because you won’t be strong for long---hold back tears,
And don’t look back because you know what she is going to say,
Oh, by the way I still think you’re the nicest.

I need to know the name of that guy you’re dancing with,
When you glance at me the knife twists a little deeper, he makes me bitter.
And when I try to speak I hear my voice and I’m still me,
I got a heart but there’s a few holes in it as you can probably see
But if you listen closely you’ll hear it doesn’t beat but fractures
It will probably kill me someday when I’m left bleeding
Alone in a room somewhere, I’ll still be me but I’ll be smiling
Because deep inside my mind it’s you that I’ll be picturing.

I know how you’re feeling and yes you’d be right for thinking
Every screw must be lose, when I walk my head rattles
I hear your voice while dreaming, when I wake I feel like screaming,
I know life is not a game but if it was I would want to win every battle
So I go find a corner and try to look lonely but nobody’s coming—
Next I try running but there’s no search party here to find me
And I can feel it now, my heart being bled dry by your voice
This is my choice and it’s making me crazy, vision hazy—
I can’t sleep because at the end of the night, I’ll still be me.

The walls are telling me that It’s too late, I’m missed my chance—
I don’t know how to dance, but in all honesty neither can he.
By now you must think that I’m insane but I’m done with watching
I’m still searching for the perfect verse, the one that makes you fall in love
So at the end of the night I won’t break my hands on walls,
Pictures of you going round and round deep inside my head
Bitterness gives me a shove, down the stairs—here we go again.

Meant to Die

My fate is sealed by the words I speak;
Love is bound by whom I meet.
Life is fleeting, but lust survives;
I see it in the clouds, birds and trees,
It makes me question—wonder—
Is love meant to die?

My Mind Wanders

It's 4:00am and I'm still thinking of you,
I don't know where you are, how you're doing.
No matter where you are in the world
I'll be thinking of you—I'll always be thinking of you.
You're miles away yet still I hold you in my arms,
the farther you run the more my mind chases after you,
At least when you're gone I get to miss you—
I miss you and I don't even know you.
From miles away I can feel your pain, see your dreams;
Your angst is with me, I can feel your desire.
I'm always with you, no matter how alone you feel.
Even if I'm not the who you want, I'm with you

My Final Confession

From now until you die, don't believe a word I say;
everything I tell you is a lie, and it's ridiculous.
I can't tell you anything; it kills me in every way.
To you, I want to whisper every thought that crosses my mind
but I know you don't care what goes on in my simple mind.

I'll pretend you care what I think; and to myself I'll lie;
you've never cared for me and you tell me that everyday.
Some part of me keeps hoping that you lie (the way that I lie),
after all, I'm fluent in pseudo-truth.  What am I saying?
You make me ramble and sound broken.  What am I saying?

I want to tell the truth but instead I spit out regret;
I hide my trails well; I make sure you never know where I am.
I've done things that don't make me proud but I won't forget them;
why would I want to forget them?  To forget is to regress.
My stories no longer fit together; I must confess.

My stories are simple memories; moments inhuman.
If it takes innocence to show who I am, then naïve I'll be.
I want you to know where I've been, see that I'm just a man;
look to me and watch me bleed,  I need you to see me broken;
I can't look at my reflection- I feel I've misspoken.

I think of what's missing; it's suffocating- I concede.
I want you to see me broken; crying in an empty room-
you'll see how human I am, I'm not a machine, I bleed.
It's ridiculous, what I think; the disillusions I live.
You deserve to see me broken; see how I really live.

I want you to know who I am; ask me and we'll reminisce.
If I'm lying, I'm sorry, but there's good in me; it exists.

My Existence

I need you to hate, so much it breaks me;
tear me down, show me true apathy-
make me speechless, that's what I truly want.
Teach me how to forget, it's foreign to me;
show me how to be a killer, it's what I truly am.
Break me, it's all I need; it's all I want from you.
I'm a hopeless cause; tell it to me;
tell me my words are endless; each one senseless,
I need to hear it from you; all I do is lie.
Become a philosopher; my existence? Show it to me.
With innuendos, give me hope and belief,
remember my words for the rest of your life.
When I look to you, remember me apathy,
remember who I am, I'll miss you
