Somewhere along the way I was left behind,
Left with a mouthful of words that disappeared—
They stuck on my tongue as I swallowed hard,
They tasted bitter when mixed with silly thoughts.
I tried to walk away but found myself lost,
The streets themselves were painted black.
I returned with the intention of serenading you
With the verses written on the back of my hand
But I took one look in your eyes and lost my voice.
My heart grew heavy as I kept my mind empty,
I looked to the sky in hopes of consolation
But there was just one star shining faintly,
And he looked so lonely.
I felt akin to his regret.
