Moment

I have dedicated my life to this moment

And now that I’m living it I’m afraid

That it will be over before I can comprehend

How this moment will define me.

I know that this is the apex

Of what I’ve been working towards,

Dolefulness fills me as I count back the seconds.

My thoughts drift solemn, so sad—

You will be gone soon enough.

I can feel my whole body shaking

And I’m wondering if you feel it too.

The closeness of your heartbeat

Is enough to destroy me,

And the sound of you breathing

Burns this moment into my brain.
