A Different Kind of Dream

There's no going home, your childhood is gone,
The avenues are empty, no friends upon the lawn—
And you're not the one who grew up so shy,
Not the one who smiled carefree—
The one who thought he'd learn to fly

Memories in your head take up space,
Walking by the field, once your favourite place—
Who knew there would be time to grow cold,
No more smiling on the playground—
Did you know your soul's been sold?

Let Me Live Again

There's only one gift you could give me,
Only one memento that could make me smile—
So give me back my health, let me walk again,
And I promise I'll never leave.
If you could heal me, build upon my dreams,
I promise that I would love you—
I'd sell my soul to the devil just to run again,
Happiness weaved between the flames.
If you could give me back my world
I would forever be yours—
Just let me jump again so I may feel
The cool burn of the sand—
Let me live again, the only way I know how.

In Eden's Footsteps

How I miss the whispers we will never speak,
Through the mirror in the world that does not exist—
You are there, your smile lights the path
Of a thousand wandering ships.
Serendipity follows like a lost puppy,
Biting at your heels with every step you take.
And in that world the lonely son's soliloquies
Do not go unheard, for you are there to listen—
But through the mirror, to the world we live,
My voice goes mute as if I choose not to converse.
A thousand nights for a thousand ships, each goes by,
As I take for granted the one character
Who smiles when our eyes meet and who isn't
Just another placeholder I write to take up space.
But I thought you deserve to know,
I tremble silently in the dark when you're no longer near—
Happiness squandered just to live a life apart,
The saddest sight I have ever seen—through the mirror—
In Eden's footsteps, leading your fleet of ships.

Into The Darkness

There’s a blackbird upon the windowsill
Unaware of the rain that plummets
For it sings its twisting language still
As I reach my own internal summit.
My hands are painted crimson red
As I take a step into the darkness
And wonder why no tears are shed—
Memories wander ere I learn to suppress
The emotions fed by all mankind.
Human no longer, on the shadow’s edge,
Ambition has long ago left me behind
To die on my lonely ledge.
The ephemeral smile makes you weak—
We’ve come too far now, you and I—
I place a hand upon your cheek
In the room where dreams come to die.
Upon my lips a crooked smile grows
Aware of the stories you’ve been told,
The truth I thought only you would know
Ia a withering secret growing old.
The clock, the only sound expressed—
Reticent between us, as I take a step back.
Would you follow me into the darkness?
I ask with the cool detachment you lack.
The pain on your face I start to see
Hatred and bloodlust fly off the shelf,
And I can feel them steal the good in me.
Would you follow me when I hate myself?
Your lips part, as if to speak in lieu
Of my painful bark. But then I erupt once more—
Would you follow me when I hate you too?
Now I walk unaccompanied to the door
Shameless passion etched into my face.
There is no guilt to contain me,
No emotion you could erase,
Now you see who I was meant to be.
A step into the darkness,
No words to repress.
