Frozen

She sits mere feet away, so close I shutter,
But I can’t say hello, can’t look at her either.
I pretend not see her and hold my breath
Until I turn the corner and let it go.
I try to find the reason for my silence—
Between her beauty and my shyness
I feel as though I’m sinking slowly—
There’s nobody here to save me.
Her smile is a figment of my dreams,
And I wonder if she knows of it.
