A Painful Secret

There’s a veil that covers your face,
A blanket of insecurity hidden well—
Jealousy lights your way, like a lantern,
Ghostly shadows follow you soundly,
Whispering to you while you try to sleep.
Your heart pounds in a twisted beat,
Causing you to rot from the inside out—
Learning to slander you day by day.
Jealousy causes hate—inner wars;
You fight but never seem to win—
Weapons are the words you speak,
Pain comes from the ones you don’t.
You seem to get left alone every night,
Blasted through with bullet wounds.
You’re the one left standing in the dark
As the world spins without you.
