What Has Been Missed

I once thought that I was lost,
So I held onto what I found—
A beating heart and blood so thick
I had forgotten how to talk.

You gave the carbon copy,
Of a life filled with regret—
And I hated myself for feeling,
So I broke the path last night.

Now I’m built from solid stone,
No joy, sadness, longing or regret.
No limbs, heart, eyes or face—
Just veins that are filled with sand.

I once though I found the world,
And so I stopped searching—
Now I see what I had missed;
I see what a fool I have been.

Up above—on the edge,
Bittersweet remorse hanging loosely—
Hung over my head.
Memories disappear one by one
All I remember now is the sea.
And somewhere deep inside of me
I wish for it to take me away.
Your voice is remembered fondly
But unfortunately it too
Is bound to fade away.
I am sitting on the edge,
With an empty mind and rocks below—
Salt wounds and a damaged brain,
I wish to hold your hand
Before I let go.
