The Ice Around Us

Show me how to live, remind me what I have forgotten—
The lightest touch against my hand serves as a reminder
That I am human and that life is passing by.
The poison on your breath is what gives me life;
Desire infuses my being as I become lost in a moment,
My eyes fail me, for I can’t believe I am next to you—
I never thought I would be here in a moment with you.
My identity is cast into a sea of people looking on,
Their blind eyes portray feelings of jealousy.
The ice I walk begins to crack—the world is made of ice—
Crystal cracking signals the end, desire shattering.
Reality is now a twisted compilation of memories;
I swallow hard and try my best not to disappear,
Life changes when you’re held so near.
